Google Apps is a collection of tools from Google, available at low- or no cost to nonprofits. The suite features several web applications with similar functionality to traditional office packages and standalone collaboration tools; even telephony.

Join us Tuesday October 6th at Denver Open Media, for a discussion of how nonprofits are using these tools today. Ted Fickes from The Wilderness Society, and Pogo from the Colorado Environmental Coalition will share some of their experiences with these tools, and discuss common obstacles and concerns.

September 23rd, AIGA Colorado presents Jim Ales, discussing the designer's role in making a positive impact through the power of design. Jim is the recipient of the AIGA Environmental Leadership Award, and a judge for the 2009 (Re)design Awards. Much recent work been done in our nation's capital, around open data and transparency.  The city of Washington DC made lots of municipal data available in real time, and the Apps for Democracy program saw some real successes building on that.  Similar efforts are underway in other cities across the nation, and at the federal level as well.  What are some of the promises and pitfalls of this movement?  Join us for a discussion of open government data:

• What is it?
• What are people doing with it?  (and, so what?)
• What are the pitfalls and problem areas?
• What does it mean for Colorado?

Thanks to everyone who attended our July 7th meetup, "Social Media Planning and Monitoring".  We had a full house.  Overfull, really.  Most everyone was using social media with their organizations and clients, and a few veterans have been using it for a year or more.  Some were already doing a bit of monitoring and shared their tools and thoughts, and we had a helpful presentation on social media planning by the Denver DataMan, Steve Kessler.

Thanks for the helpful comments and feedback we've received recently, and BIG thanks to all of you who've been talking and tweeting about our group and events the last couple of days.

CNTC organizers met April 21st, with Sara Raab from the Colorado Nonprofit Association, to discuss shared goals and ways we can support one another.  Our goals are very much in line, and CNTC was received favorably, especially as a resource for presentation and training at the CNA fall nonprofit summit (October 29, 30 in Denver).

The Colorado chapter of AIGA is hosting a design competition honoring sustainable and socially responsible work done by professionals across the nation.

The (Re)designAwards are about rethinking that power and redirecting it to do the right thing by supporting and motivating the emerging ethos of a sustainable economy. This design competition is looking to recognize the best of the best in sustainable graphic design created by designers in the US.
